Dolly
21yo, Quarter horse mare, Black, 15hh
Dolly came to Braided Manes in October as an owner surrender. Due to health issues her lifelong owner could no longer care for Dolly. She was originally purchased as a yearling but is not broke to ride. Having no other information I have to get the story from Dolly herself. She is sound and in good health. Her feet are a little long, but in great shape. She seems to have a cataract in her left eye, but prefers to keep me on that side.
Dolly did load in the trailer, but not willingly, so I would assume she did not leave the property very often, if at all. She sported a nylon halter and the scars that say that it has been on her for a very long time. I had to use a flathead screwdriver to pry the buckle loose. Once the halter was off it was weeks before she would let me approach her with anything even resembling a lead rope in my hands.
She will follow me into the round pen, and lunge at liberty. She knows Whoa, walk, trot, and she changes direction on demand. She moves beautifully, with lots of spirit and energy. It seems like she has had some training but it didn't include riding. She likes human attention. when I feed her she will let me groom her and pick up her feet, as long as I don't have a lead rope. She will NOT allow me to put on a blanket, yet.
We are working on trust with Dolly, and trailer loading. She will get a trim very soon and will learn to wear a blanket. It seems that she would enjoy liberty work. She gets along with any horse she is paired with and does not seem to be herd bound. I'm not sure she would enjoy being a companion or a pasture pet. She wants something to do.
